SkyCity Boxing Day Races  - Saturday 26 December 2020

Keep the family entertained this Boxing Day

Located right in a precinct within the centre of the racetrack, our family-friendly zone returns for the Boxing Day Races 2020.

This is the area if you're seeking a laid back way to spend your SkyCity Boxing Day Races and need a little 'additional entertainment' to keep the little ones happy.

This year we're putting on a range of FREE children's entertainment - including pony rides and a mobile barnyard - to keep the younger ones entertained between races.

Bring your own picnic lunch or use our giant BBQ to cook your Christmas Day leftovers off. Otherwise, let some of the many food vendors  do the hard work for you and purchase food off them.

You’re also welcome to bring along your own unopened non-alcoholic beverages, as well as chairs, umbrellas, picnic rugs (etc) to this precinct (just note that you will need to carry your items in from the car park).

Bars will be operating within this area from which you can purchase non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages from (a suitable form of photographic ID will be required for any alcoholic beverage purchases).

  • Infield (“family entertainment zone”) ticket(s) DO NOT give access to any other precinct on course, including The Paddock and those general admission areas located on the grandstand side (including where the fashions in the field competition is located). If you wish to access those areas, you will need to purchase a ticket in advance & note that a dress code may apply in other areas

  • Free, overnight parking is available in various carparks oncourse on a first-in, first-served basis. Extensive parking is available in the infield (centre of the racetrack) – this is the best option for infield ticketholders.  The infield carpark can be accessed either through Gate 1 off Ascot Avenue or, to avoid potential traffic delays, enter via Derby Downs which is accessible off Ladies Mile

  • The Derby Downs entrance will be ENTRY only from 10.30am until 3.00pm when it will become EXIT only

  • The Tecoma Street motorway off-ramp (exit 434) provides a quick way to access the Derby Downs entrance for those heading from the north

  • There is also limited parking available in the carpark adjacent to the Southern Motorway on a first-in, first-served basis. This carpark provides the easiest access to the main grandstand side entrance (Gate 6) and the raceday ticket collection booth, however it fills quickly & will require a walk around the racecourse perimeter to the infield for those with infield-only tickets

  • Access into this carpark is via either Ascot Ave or Mitchelson Street

  • Children under 15 years of age get free entry into the infield and general admission areas

Pedestrian access

  • If you are arriving on foot from outside the racecourse grounds into the infield, you must use Gate 1

  • If you do not have a ticket to elsewhere on course (such as General Admission, The Paddock, Cuvée), you will not be able to enter the infield from the grandstand side of the course & will be required to walk around the perimeter of the grounds

Ticket collection

  • There is no raceday ticket collection booth operating in the infield and raceday ticket(s) are required in order to gain access from the carparks & into the racecourse grounds, including the infield precincts.  If you have any ticketing queries on the day, you will first need to go to the Ticket Collection Booth located by Gate 6

Taxis & public transport

  • We strongly encourage guests to leave cars at home & use other means of transport in order to get to and/or from the racecourse. Our preferred taxi supplier, Auckland Co-op Taxi, will pick up & drop off guests right to our main entrance (Gate 6) or the infield. Ring 09 300 3000 to book. Otherwise, Ellerslie Racecourse is close to public transport routes

  • To keep queues at bars to a minimum, only cash will be accepted within the infield family entertainment zone. We suggest bringing cash with you on the day, however cash-out facilities will also be available within the infield precinct

Fashions in the Field

  • If you wish to watch or be a part of the fashions in the field competition, your infield ticket will NOT provide access to the grandstand side the course where the competition takes place. To get access to that area, you will need at least a standard general admission ticket. Otherwise, highlights of the competition will be broadcast on the outdoor super screens throughout the day

Dress code

  • There is no dress code in the Infield Family Entertainment Zone however one does apply in other areas on course. Please check it out if you have tickets for different locations as entry may be refused if it is not adhered to

Other information

  • Tickets are non-refundable and include a 2.5% transaction fee.  A separate booking fee of $1.50 per ticket will also apply upon purchase.

  • Ellerslie encourages responsible drinking

  • Intoxicated persons will not be granted entry to Ellerslie Racecourse

  • We strongly encourage guests leave cars at home. Don’t drink and drive; use our preferred taxi supplier Auckland Co-op to get you to and from the event. They will drop you off into the infield on request and you can catch one from the same place for the journey home. Ring 09 300 3000 to book

  • Whilst cash and eftpos are available, we recommend guests bring cash

  • Standard event terms and conditions apply
