Avondale Cup & Guineas Day - Saturday 19 February 2022
Do it your way
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, General Admission for this day is no longer available.
The Auckland region is currently sitting under the “Red” setting within the Government’s COVID-19 Protection Framework.
Under this setting, events using the vaccine passport system cannot hold gatherings of more than 100 people in any one defined space. As a result, General Admission for this day is no longer available.
In addition, while the day’s racing will go ahead, cancellations have been made to off-track activities such as the Irish Party associated with this day and children's entertainment.
Our general admission areas get you access into the official - and free - Irish Party precinct (Newmarket Bar & Lawn, ground floor, Ellerslie Stand) and provide an easygoing way for eventgoers to enjoy their day.
From the stables to the Parade Ring, the Birdcage and the track... you’ll have endless opportunities to get up close to the gorgeous horses in our general admission areas.
When it comes time to race, you have the option of either enjoying exceptional views from the covered, outdoor seating upstairs in the Ellerslie Stand or get as close as possible to the thunder of the track from the open space of public lawns which neighbour the home straight.
The Newmarket Room, located on the ground floor of the Ellerslie Stand, is open to the public and offers a range of tasty food & beverages to purchase including, on this day, some of Chef's popular Irish fare. That room and the surrounding lawn is also where the "Irish Party" takes place.
You’re welcome to bring along your own picnic food, unopened non-alcoholic beverages, as well as chairs & picnic rugs for use in outdoor general admission areas.
On-site, overnight parking is free
General admission is free, however there are also ticket options available for purchase and private rooms & spaces available for hire too
A dress code is in place in all hospitality areas and certain other areas including the Ascot Stand (smart casual is expected for general admission areas). While we hate turning people away, the dress code will be enforced as required and entry will be refused if it is not adhered to. Please ensure anyone you are purchasing tickets for is aware of this
We encourage responsible drinking
We are a fully-licensed venue and BYO alcohol is not permitted
Intoxicated persons will not be granted entry into Ellerslie Racecourse and will be removed from the grounds
We strongly encourage guests leave cars at home
Ellerslie Racecourse is located close to public transport networks including the Greenlane Train Station which is a 600m walk away
Promotional photographs, social media content & film footage will be taken at this event. By entering the racecourse, event-goers consent to use of their image by the Club & New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing for promotional purposes
Event terms & conditions apply
Ellerslie Racecourse will be operating as a “vaccination required venue” while Auckland operates under the COVID-19 Protection Framework ("traffic light" system), or similar. As a result, racegoers will be required to present a valid COVID-19 Vaccine Pass along with a suitable form of photographic identification in order to be able to enter the racecourse. * Children under the age of 12 years and three months, as well as those who present a valid "medical exemption from [the approved COVID-19] vaccine(s)" as issued by New Zealand's Ministry of Health in conjunction with a matching and legal and valid form of photographic identification, are not required to show a valid My Vaccine Pass in order to obtain entry into our site(s).
