There's nothing quite like a summer's day at the races.

Bring the family & your favourite summer accessories – jandals, deck chairs, sun umbrellas, shorts and a picnic - and enjoy the great outdoors in a relaxing and fun atmosphere at the races.

We cater for all your food and beverage needs with plenty of delicious and hassle-free food options available on course or pack a picnic with your favourite treats (including any non-alcoholic, unopened drinks) to enjoy in any of our outdoor, public areas on course.


All bars close shortly after the last race, except the Winning Post Bar.  All guests on course are welcome into the Winning Post Bar at this time.

If you're bringing the younger family members to our Summer Raceday, we've got their day sorted.

Free general admission will get you access to our bouncy castle and swingball sets which are free to use.

Other Information

  • You're able to bring your own picnic food & unopened, non-alcoholic beverages into outdoor general admission (public) areas on course & can purchase alcoholic beverages from bars on site. There are a number of food outlets on site too

  • Tickets are non-refundable

  • dress code is in place in all hospitality areas and certain other areas including the Ascot Stand. While we hate turning people away, the dress code will be enforced as required and entry will be refused if it is not adhered to. Please ensure anyone you are purchasing tickets for is aware of this 

  • We are a fully-licensed venue and BYO alcohol is not permitted

  • We encourage responsible drinking

  • Intoxicated persons will not be granted entry into Ellerslie Racecourse

  • Don’t drink and drive, use our preferred taxi supplier Auckland Co-op Taxi who will drop off / pick up at the main entrance. Ring 09 300 3000 to book

  • Ellerslie Racecourse is located close to public transport networks including the Greenlane Train Station which is a 600m walk away

  • Free car-parking is available on course on a first-in, first-served basis. 

  • Promotional photographs, social media content & film footage may be taken at this event. By entering the racecourse, event-goers consent to use of their image by the Club & New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing for promotional purposes

  • Event terms & conditions apply

  • Ellerslie Racecourse is operating as a “vaccination required venue” while Auckland operates under the COVID-19 Protection Framework ("traffic light" system), or similar. As a result, racegoers (with some exceptions; see here) will be required to present a valid COVID-19 Vaccine Pass along with a suitable form of photographic identification in order to be able to enter the racecourse.
