With an air of excitement in all four corners of the racecourse; high-class thoroughbred racing, hospitality & free family entertainment combines to bring you one of Auckland's favourite occasions - the SkyCity New Year's Day Races

Free family entertainment

The younger ones can enjoy free use of our bouncy castle and swingball sets between races on the Newmarket Lawn (all tickets provide access to this area).

What's more, if they're under 15 years of age they also get FREE general admission. 

You can bring your own picnic food, unopened non-alcoholic beverages, umbrella, deck chairs and more to help enjoy your day with in outdoor general admission areas.

Event information

  • You're able to bring your own picnic food & unopened, non-alcoholic beverages into outdoor general admission areas only - they are not permitted in any hospitality precinct or the Ascot Stand with the exception of Premium General Admission (open to ticket-holders(

    • There are food outlets in general admission areas and the Ascot Stand. Food is included in other hospitality precinct tickets 

  • BYO alcohol is not permitted anywhere on-site however guests aged 18yr+ can purchase alcoholic beverages from bars on site with maximum drink restrictions applying throughout the event

  • There is a dress code in place. While we hate turning people away, it will be enforced as required and entry may be refused if it is not adhered to 

  • Tickets are non-refundable except in circumstances outlined in Terms & Conditions

  • We encourage responsible drinking & intoxicated persons will not be granted entry into Ellerslie Racecourse

  • We strongly encourage you to taxi to the track and leave your car at home. Don’t drink and drive, use our preferred taxi supplier Auckland Co-op Taxi who will drop off / pick up at the main entrance. Ring 09 300 3000 to book

  • Ellerslie Racecourse is located close to public transport networks including the Greenlane Train Station which is a 600m walk away

  • Senior citizen general admission rates apply at the gate on the day

  • Whilst cash-out facilities and eftpos are available, we recommend you bring cash 

  • Children under 15 years are free

  • Free overnight car-parking is available on a first-in, first-served basis

  • Ellerslie Racecourse will be operating as a “vaccination required venue” while Auckland operates under the COVID-19 Protection Framework ("traffic light" system), or similar. As a result, racegoers will be required to present a valid COVID-19 Vaccine Pass along with a suitable form of photographic identification in order to be able to enter the racecourse. * Children under the age of 12 years and three months, as well as those who present a valid medical exemption from [the approved COVID-19] vaccine(s)" as issued by New Zealand's Ministry of Health in conjunction with a matching and legal and valid form of photographic identification, are not required to show a valid My Vaccine Pass in order to obtain entry into our site(s).
