TRACKCHAT | September Raceday - 12 Sep 2020

Need an insider tip? Keen to know how the track is shaping up?

Here's your preview to our upcoming raceday, complete with Craig Baker's thoughts on the day's feature race.

Due to Auckland's current COVID-19 alert level, tomorrow's September Raceday will be held behind 'closed doors' meaning the course will only be open to trainers, jockeys, strappers and essential workers.

Track update

The track reading this morning was a Heavy 10 after 4mms of rain overnight.

We're expecting some rain this afternoon so it's unlikely the track will improve much.

Race 7 - JRA Trophy

$30,000 | Rating 95 | HCP | 1400m

The highlight of the day is having the first two home in last season’s Vodafone New Zealand Derby (Sherwood Forest and Two Illicit) kick off their spring campaign in this event.

While both are high class, I have opted for the Gay Robinson-trained, Finbarr, who was only narrowly-beaten last start by Demonetization at Matamata.

Finbarr has won four from eight on heavy tracks and a handy draw should see him being in the first three.

While it wouldn’t surprise to see the class horses run him down late, Finbarr will certainly have a fitness edge and the current price of $13.90 and $3.90 is enough for me to have a throw at the stumps.
