Feature race preview

Race 6 | $50,000 CLC Pakuranga Hunt Cup | Prestige Jumping Race | About 4900m | 2.28pm

This historic race is normally run at the back-end of August on heavy ground, so a Pakuranga Hunt Cup run in October on Dead ground is going to offer a significantly different challenge.

I have landed on the John and Karen Parsons-trained, Delacroix. While 12 of his 15 wins have come on soft or heavy ground, he has won three times on a good or dead ground. Since being in the North Island, he has been around the mark with a win, a second and, most recently, a third in the Hawke’s Bay Steeplechase behind race rival, Perry Mason.

I fancy he will appreciate the better ground and his ability on the flat might be the difference.

Hardest to beat is the aforementioned, Perry Mason. Battling previously for form, he was a good winner at Hastings at his last start and will be another that will appreciate the better footing.

Next best is the promising, Southern Cool.
