Need an insider tip? Keen to know how the track is shaping up?

Here's your preview to our upcoming raceday complete with Craig Baker's thoughts on the evening's feature races, speed maps, track manager Jason Fulford's report and some tips from the office lads.

Track update

The track reading at 3.30pm this afternoon (Friday) was Dead 4 after 15mms irrigation was applied on Thursday night.

The aim is to produce a Dead 4 track for racing tomorrow night with a possible upgrade to a Good 3 throughout the race meeting.

Here's what our track manager Jason Fulford had to say about the track earlier this morning:

Feature race previews

We will look at both the DoubleTree By Hilton Karaka Million 2YO and the Karaka Million 3yo Classic given both races are $1m.

Race 4, 6.30 pm, DoubleTree By Hilton Karaka Million 2YO | SW | 1200m

While his gallop at Ellerslie on Monday morning wasn’t super impressive, the fact that Opie Bosson has chosen to ride Dynastic is enough of a lead for me to pick him on top. A beautiful looking son of Almanzor, Dynastic should get a good run from barrier five. There is no doubt he is going to be a better three-year-old, but I think he has the class to take this race out. In saying that, he is at rock bottom odds now.

The dangers include Wolverine and Fellini. If Wolverine had drawn a fraction better, she would have gone on top. That said, if she can get cover, she will be powering home.

Fellini looks like a typical professional Te Akau two-year-old who has drawn well, will camp off the speed, present in the straight and be hard to beat.

Race 6, 7.48 pm, Karaka Million 3YO Classic| SW | 1600m

Not a strong renewal this year with some of the good three-year-olds e.g., Dark Destroyer not eligible. On exposed form, On The Bubbles is the clear stand out plus has the services of Opie Bosson. Barrier nine is a little sticky and will force Opie to make an early decision which I suspect will be to go forward. If he gets an economical run, he should have too much class.

The dangers include Te Toki and Miss Ella. While I would have preferred him to draw better, Te Toki has a touch of class. In a strong race, he made good ground for fourth in the SkyCity Auckland Guineas. If On The Bubbles is off his game and Te Toki gets cover from his wide gate, Te Toki is good enough to win this.

Miss Ella was hugely impressive winning her Maiden at Rotorua. While only a Maiden, to the eye, she looks like a filly with plenty of potential and, from barrier one, will get a perfect run.
