Need an insider tip? Keen to know how the track is shaping up?

Here's your preview to our upcoming raceday, complete with Craig Baker's thoughts on the day's feature race.

Track update

The track reading this morning was a Dead 4.

There are showers forecast today and some tomorrow so it's difficult to predict tomorrow’s track condition, but it shouldn’t be any worse than a Dead 4/5.

Feature race preview

Race 7 | $70,000 Jarden Stakes | Group III | 2000m | WFA | 3.43pm

An interesting race with a number of ‘handicappers’ pitting themselves at WFA.

There is no doubt that the best form coming into the Jarden Stakes will be that from the Group 1 Livamol Classic at Hastings.

For that reason, Vadavar, is clearly on top after his fast-finishing third behind Melody Belle and Avantage.

The speed map suggests that the speed will be slow so, from barrier one, Opie Bosson is going to have to be at his best given the horse will likely get off the pace on the fence.

That said, if he can get clear air on the turn, I expect him to be too classy.

The dangers include Sherrif and Fiscal Fantasy.

Lexus Melbourne Cup | Group I | 3200m | 5.00pm

An outstanding renewal with a number of different form lines coming together.

The three I can’t go past, in no particular order, are – Anthony Van Dyck, Surprise Baby and Tiger Moth.

Anthony Van Dyck has a slight question mark running two miles but, from a low draw, should get every opportunity to run it out. As an English Derby winner, we know he has the class.

You can make a case to say that with a better run last year, Surprise Baby should have won the 2019 edition. He has had a light campaign which suits him and is drawn to get a soft run just off midfield. Expect him to be very strong late.

Tiger Moth brings excellent three-year-old European form and, with a light weight, should be extremely hard to beat. Has to overcome a wide draw but has Kerrin McEvoy in the saddle so no real concerns there.

Given their current prices, back all three and you will make a nice profit if one of them wins.

If you want to take a trifecta, take those three to run first, second and third, and throw in Master Of Reality, Sir Dragonet, Twilight Payment, Verry Elleegant, Finche, Prince Of Arran and Russian Camelot for second and third.
