Track update

The track on Friday afternoon is a Dead 4. A further penetrometer will be done tomorrow morning.

We will irrigate tonight and will likely irrigate again on Saturday night.

Here's what our track manager, Jason Fulford, had to say about the track this morning:

Feature race preview

Race 9, 5.34pm, Group 2 Barfoot & Thompson Auckland Cup® | SW&P | 3200m | $500,000

Lincoln King on top for me.  While he doesn’t possess the class of a Concert Hall or Sound, you know that he will run 3200 metres.  The winner of this year’s Wellington Cup, he was an excellent second in Saturday’s Race In Australia With Go Racing Nathan’s Memorial.  From a midfield draw, he will be put on the speed and be hard to get past.

The dangers are Hit The Road Jack and Sound.  No knock on Concert Hall – just a wee niggle about 3200 metres.

Race 6, 3.44pm, Group 1 Sistema Stakes | 2YO SW | 1200m | $240,000

Te Akau have a strong hand with three runners in this year’s edition.  Maven Belle is three from three including a super impressive win in the Matamata Breeders Stakes and I have her narrowly on top from Dynastic.  Difficult to split but have gone for race fitness albeit she jumps from seven compared to Dynastic’s draw of one.  Should be a cracking race.

Race 8 | 4.54pm, Group 1 Bonecrusher New Zealand Stakes | WFA | 2000m $240,000

Isn’t it fantastic to have Field Of Gold, a quality three-year-old running against the older horses?  While he is not without a chance, I selected the Te Akau trained, Amarelinha.  I was taken with how she finished off the Otaki Māori G1 WFA at her most recent start and you can only think that the step up to 2000 metres will be an advantage.

The dangers include Coventina Bay and The Chosen One
