Need an insider tip? Keen to know how the track is shaping up?
Here's your preview to our upcoming racedays this weekend - Awards Raceday and Queen's Birthday Raceday - complete with Craig Baker's thoughts on the day's feature race, speed maps and some tips from the office lads.
The track this morning (Friday) was a Heavy 10. With little rain forecast, it is likely that the track will be a Slow 9 tomorrow (Saturday).
Unfortunately, there is considerable rain forecast for Sunday and Monday. If that rain comes, we'll be racing on a Heavy 11 on Monday.
Here's what our track manager Jason Fulford had to say about the track earlier this morning:
Feature race previews
Awards Raceday - Saturday 5 June
Race 6 | 2.48pm | Stella Artois Chairman’s Trophy | OPN HCP | 1400m
Current favourite, Run To Perfection, was outstanding when winning at Te Rapa two week ago. While he goes up 3kg in weight for that win, I don’t think that will be enough given his five-length winning margin. Clearly on top for me.
Queen's Birthday Raceday - Monday 7 June
Race 4 | 12.52pm | KS Browne Hurdle | OPN HDL | 3350m
Not a strong edition this year with many battling to find their best form. One of the form horses is the Kevin Myers-trained, Shaun Fannin-ridden, Locharburn. A winner at Wanganui followed by a good third in the Waikato Hurdles is good form for this. Being a son of Zed, the likely heavy track should be an advantage.
Race 6 | 2.02pm |McGregor Grant Steeplechase | OPN STP | 4150m
A "small but select" field lines up in the 119th running of the McGregor Grant Steeplechase.
Lacustre is proven over our hill and looks to have come up well this year, highlighted by a good second on the flat at his most recent start. He has the services of high-class jockey Craig Thornton and will prove hard to beat.
