We recently caught up with The Ned Prix de Fashion qualifier Toni Thomson. Toni will represent Waikato Racing Club in the national fashions in the field final, after earning her spot winning the Adashiko Fashion Stakes at Te Rapa. Keep reading to learn more about Toni.
Is this your first time qualifying for The Ned Prix de Fashion?
Yes, this is my first time qualifying. It is a great honour to be representing Waikato Racing Club. I normally only enter one or two competitions each year so to win was a great thrill. I'm sure the little squeal that I let out when the winners announcement was made showed exactly how excited and happy I was.
What do you enjoy most about fashions in the field competitions?
Dressing up! There are so few occasions where you can get 'dressed to the nines'. I love being pampered, having my hair and makeup done, and its so far from my day to day life.
What do you do for a day job?
I am a Chartered Accountant and Financial Adviser. I have just gone into business in the last 6 months.
Do you consider yourself a trend setter or follower?
Neither! I do my own thing.... I wear what makes me feel good. Quality millinery is an absolute must too. I am so lucky to have the help of the very talented Maree from Maree Tong Millinery create some incredibly unique pieces for me over the years. I send her a picture of a dress and she creates a masterpiece. I am also a big fan, especially in these crazy times, of recycling and reusing aspects of every outfit I wear.
What’s one thing people might be surprised to learn about you?
I'm a massive Petrol-head. I love watching V8 Supercars on tv with my fiancé and our four boys. We all have our favourite teams/drivers.... nothing like a little bit of friendly rivalry!
Do you follow horse racing as well, or is fashions in the field where it’s at for you on raceday?
Horse Racing is a big passion of mine! Horse racing/training is in my blood.... I went to my first race meeting as a 4 day old Baby! Lee and I have shares in horses... its a great thrill to watch them race (and sometimes win)!
The Ned Prix de Fashion is New Zealand's national fashions in the field final. Pre-qualifiers have until Friday 27 May to enter.
