Members' update | SkyCity Boxing Day Races RSVPs needed

Due to the Government regulations around the COVID-19 pandemic, entry to the upcoming SkyCity Boxing Day Races on 26 December 2021 is restricted. 

If you are a financial member of Auckland Thoroughbred Racing and would like spend your day based in one of the members-only areas on course (not including the shared hospitality precincts you are also able to purchase tickets into), please keep reading to find out how to secure your spot.

The 'Red' setting and what it means for the SkyCity Boxing Day Races

As you will have heard, the Auckland region is to remain under the 'Red' setting within the Government’s COVID-19 Protection Framework for 26 December.

Under this setting, events using the vaccine passport system cannot hold gatherings of more than 100 people (not including staff) in any one defined space.



Where do I go? What can I do? What do you need from me?

Members have the option of either purchasing from one of the shared hospitality precincts on offer or choosing to base themselves from an allocated members-only room (further details of which are below).

Those members choosing to base themselves from their allocated members-only room are required to abide by the below requirements in order to meet Government, Club and NZTR guidelines.

(Members who choose to purchase a ticket(s) into a shared hospitality precinct will be sent requirements as part of their pre-event ticket letter).

  • You must RSVP to  by 5pm, Wednesday 22 December – please note:

  • Spaces are allocated on a first-in, first-served

  • Guest passes cannot be purchased for the day but those members with annual guest cards may use theirs (please include the name of your guest/s at the time of RSVP)

  • If you are driving, you need to park in the members' carpark

  • You need to enter the racecourse grounds on foot via the members' carpark turnstiles (refer to the map) 

  • Please note that those members utilising the members-only spaces will not be able to enter the racecourse via any other entrance

  • Ellerslie Racecourse will be operating as a ‘Vaccine Required Venue’ with entry conditions applying – details of which can be found here

  • You will need to provide your name and present your valid "My Vaccine Pass" at the Members’ Carpark turnstiles. You may also be required to provide a valid form of photographic identification

  • Your name will be checked off the RSVP list and your "My Vaccine Pass" will be scanned using the NZ Pass Verifier application ​

  • Entry will be granted to those people showing both a double-vaccinated status* and their name on the RSVP list

  • Anyone* who is unable to show a valid “My Vaccine Pass” or whose name is not on the RSVP list will not be permitted into the racecourse

  • To help ensure we have time to check names off, racecourse gates and the Ascot Stand will open at 10.30am (the first race is at 12.24pm)

  • Raceday attendees are required to wear face masks at all times except when seated and eating or drinking. This Club requirement is in addition to the COVID-19 Protection Framework and designed to keep our staff and fellow racegoers safe. Please do not be offended if you are asked to wear one. Attendees who do not comply may be asked to leave

  • Please follow any signage and maintain the appropriate social distancing measures as you make your way to your allocated room, and when in your room:

  • Gold Star | Mitchelson Room (with lunch served in the Chairman's Suite)

  • Premier | Lady Fisher - Due to limited capacity, Premier Members can RSVP for themselves and up to one guest only

  • All other membership types | Takanini Room (for the first 100 RSVPs; any additional members who RSVP will be allocated the New Zealand Room, Level 5, Ascot Stand)

  • The Raceday Office will be open for general enquiries only and will not have racebooks in stock

  • You are not able to move between rooms or go to other areas of the racecourse for the duration of your visit  (with the exception of the Raceday Office for enquiries) - this includes going out to the tie-up stalls, the Parade Ring or to any other rooms or spaces that may normally be available on raceday.  You must stay in your allocated room or within the defined, outdoor grandstand space that has been allocated to it

  • Complimentary racebooks will be available from within your allocated room

  • Cash-out facilities will be available at the bars; however we also suggest you bring cash with you

  • Exit the racecourse via the members' carpark turnstiles ​

* Children under the age of 12 years and three months, as well as those who present a valid "medical exemption from [the approved COVID-19] vaccine(s)" as issued by New Zealand's Ministry of Health in conjunction with a matching and legal and valid form of photographic identification, are not required to show a valid My Vaccine Pass in order to obtain entry into our site(s).


HOW TO SECURE YOUR SPOT As numbers must be restricted to 100 people in defined spaces, we ask that you contact your membership secretary via by 5pm, Wednesday 22 December if you wish to attend the raceday.
