Here are comments from the jockeys in the Vodafone NZ Derby.
st - Rocket Spade - Craig Grylls - That was unbelievable. So rapt to get a Derby for Lance and Scotty, they have are been my biggest supporters. They weren't going any hard tempo. About the 1300 they put the brakes on and he got going a bit hard. There were a few making wide runs so I thought here is my chance to save a bit of ground and hopefully get a bit of luck. I also had to think to myself, don't get there too soon. He's such an honest horse, it was good to see him run out the distance.
nd - Milford - Leith Innes - A real good run. Just beaten by a better horse on the day.
rd - Frontman - Danielle Johnson - A huge run by him. He's so new to this game. It's only his 4th race day start and that probably showed today.
th - Il Affare - Jonathan Parkes - A really nice run. She's run 4th and the first filly home. She's come from a long way back and run a really nice race.
th - Iffie Shows - Sam Weatherley - A very courageous run from a horse who wasn't really given much chance.
th - Montre Moi - Lisa Allpress - Desperately unlucky. He got his feet taken out from under him across the top. So definitely unlucky.
th - Tokorangi - Andrew Calder - She had a few traffic problems from the 600m. She ran on well and didn't really handle the track.
th - Jason Belltree - Vinnie Colgan - He's a big boy, just a bit weak. He'll be a nice horse next year.
th - Lord Ardmore - Michael McNab - Didn't pull up that flash
th - Tribute King - Ryan Elliot - Travelled up well and strong to the corner but when they let go he couldn't go with them.
th - Grip - Samantha Collett - A fair enough run from him but I think he'll come back better as a nice gelding if you get my drift.
th - Tannahill - Jonathan Riddell - He was just average really.
th - Perfect Scenario - Opie Bosson - He probably just failed to stay.
Last - Edge Of Wonder - Wiremu Pinn - He'll be going out for a good break after today.
