Changes to SkyCity Boxing Day Races due to Government regulations around the COVID-19 pandemic

The below provides an overview as to how the SkyCity Boxing Day Races will be run here on 26 December 2021 based on the current 'Red' setting in Auckland.

The Auckland region is currently sitting under the “Red” setting within the Government’s COVID-19 Protection Framework.

Under this setting, events using the vaccine passport system cannot hold gatherings of more than 100 people in any one defined space.

As a result, changes or cancellations have been applied to hospitality precincts and / or ticketing options in order to ensure the SkyCity Boxing Day Races can be safely conducted under the requirements of events at 'Red'.

In addition, while the scheduled racing on SkyCity Boxing Day will go ahead, cancellations have been made to off-track activities such as fashions in the field and children’s entertainment.

Ticketing & hospitality

Primary ticket purchasers will be contacted directly by the Club with regards to refunds* and / or the offer to purchase tickets (where available) into those hospitality precincts that will operate under “Red”.

Those people, along with Club members, will be given the first right to purchase any available tickets (on a first-in, first-served basis), with those who have previously signed up to hear about new ticket releases being contacted shortly thereafter.

Members of the public will then be provided the option of purchasing any remaining tickets.

* The refund request cut-off date for existing purchasers is 5.00pm Tuesday 14th December.


Owners will be allocated the Newmarket Bar & Lawn and will be required to RSVP their attendance. They will be contacted directly by the Club with regards to entry conditions and RSVP details.


Those members who wish to attend and be based in one of the dedicated members’ rooms – as opposed to a hospitality precinct - will also be required to RSVP their attendance. Members who have previously supplied the Club with an email address and have not ‘unsubscribed’ from Club communications can expect to receive an email from the Club outlining RSVP and entry conditions. Sponsors will be contacted directly by the Club’s sponsorship manager with regards to this event.

What if Auckland moves to 'Orange'?

While there is a possibility the Government may move Auckland to a lower setting for 26 December; this is not guaranteed, with the region remaining at ‘Red’ until at least 13 December.

If Auckland does move to the “Orange” setting prior to the event, capacity in selected hospitality precincts will be expanded and limited general admission tickets will be released for public purchase.

These general admission tickets will be available on a first-in, first-served basis for $10pp (RRSP$20) to reflect the lessened event schedule and can be purchased online from this website.
