Celebrating the Great Northern | Clayton Chipperfield Reunites with Golden Flare

In 2003, Clayton Chipperfield and Golden Flare made jumps racing history by becoming the first to achieve the infamous 'double-double'; winning both our Great Northern Steeplechase and McGregor Grant Steeplechase in consecutive years - a feat which has never achieved by any other.

17 years on since they last saw each other, along with trainer Raylene Whiteside, the now 30-year-old 'Flare' is back with Clayton along the very place he was once trained, Kariotahi Beach.

The current COVID-19 alert level in Auckland has meant Great Northern Day, on Sunday 3 October, has been relocated to Te Aroha Racecourse. To read NZTR's press release regarding this move, click here.
