Schweppes Avondale Guineas: Jockey Comments

We spoke to jockeys competing in the Schweppes Avondale Guineas to get their comments on how the race went.

1st: Surely Sacred Vinnie Colgan

Big run. He's going to improve. I took off pretty early. I was still a fair back at the 700m. Tough horse.

2nd: In A Twinkling Rosie Myers

Huge run. The outside gate has been his worst enemy. Pulled his way to be outside the leader and did some work getting there and he fought very hard.

3rd: Vernanme Jason Waddell

Bring on two weeks.

4th: Bobby Dee Sam Spratt

Huge run. Was stuck wide but stuck on really well.

5th: Prise De Fer Opie Bosson

It was a very nice run. Hit the line well the last bit. Just got held up a bit at the top.

6th: Sir Nate Jonathan Riddell

Nice run. He battled on. Should have finished a little better.

7th: The Chosen One Craig Grylls

He got a nice time in front early, then taken on from the 700m got him keen. He did stick on well but the one that took him on took the stuffing out of him.

8th: Masetto Trudy Thornton

A very nice run. He hit the line very nicely. He's a horse that will make a outstanding older stayer.

9th: Platinum Invador Chris Johnson

Got a long way back. Ran on nicely without a lot of room.

10th: Rippa Eagle Cameron Lammas

He's still an immature horse. He's hung a bit. The race has come too soon for him.

11th: Swords Drawn Sam Collett

Not too bad of a run. Probably unlucky for the majority of the home straight. For a maiden horse, he's going to stay the trip in the NZ Derby.

12th: Botti Michael McNab

Disappointing run.

13th: Cutadeel Matthew Cameron

Very disappointing. He's had a beautiful run from the draw. Was niggling 700m out and he should have shown more. Hopefully something will show up and we have an excuse.

14th: Tolemac Jake Bayliss

Had a task in front of us from the wide draw. He was three wide the whole way and was just exposed down the back straight and he got pulling and was buried in a hole after.

Last: Roll The Dice Lisa Allpress

Just pulled too hard.
