We spoke to jockeys competing in the Group 2 Rich Hill Mile on Christmas Carnival New Year’s Day Races to get their comments on how the race went.
1st On The Rocks Jake Bayliss
It's good to get the job done today. I had a lot of confidence in the horse and so did Pam. He has a tonne of ability and he is definitely a top line horse here in New Zealand.
2nd Tiptronic Chris Johnson
We had to go back from the draw but he made up many lengths the last furlong.
3rd The Mitigator Samantha Collett
It was a solid effort considering he did all the work and kept finding late. I think he is a progressive horse that will be competitive in these races from now on.
4th Magnum Matthew Cameron
It was a nice run. He probably just peaked the last little bit. I think he will be better next start over 1600m having had the run.
5th Yorkshire Dales Trudy Thornton
It was a very tough effort. He will be hard to beat over 2100m.
6th Consensus Michael McNab
She ran super. I haven't ridden her before today and she jumped and put herself there. She was a touch keen early, if she had of settled better we would've finished closer.
7th Sultan of Swing Jonathan Riddell
From the bad draw we had to get too far out of our ground and he found the line nicely.
8th Watch This Space Shafiq Rusof
He went okay, I just had to use him early and that told the last 100m.
9th Love Affair Opie Bosson
I was off the bit most of the way. She ran home okay late but never really threatened them.
10th Belle Du Nord Vinnie Colgan
She was very disappointing. The gaps opened but she never really travelled well enough to take them.
11th Ronchi Andrew Calder
He had a tough run and that showed in the finish.
12th Contessa Vanessa Lisa Allpress
She was disappointing.
13th Hello It's Me Cameron Lammas
She was very disappointing. She travelled up nicely and then just didn't find.
14th Bella Court Sam Spratt
She was average today.
Last Giovanni Canaletto Jonathan Parkes
He was disappointing. They are looking at trying some gear to spark him up.
