Christmas Carnival New Year’s Day Races: Pencarrow Stud City of Auckland Cup Jockey comments

We spoke to jockeys competing in the Group 3 Pencarrow Stud City of Auckland Cup on Christmas Carnival New Year’s Day Races to get their comments on how the race went.

1st Prince Jabeel Ryan Elliot (a)

We travelled outside the leader easily and he was just too tough in the straight.

2nd Peso Chris Johnson

It was a good run. We made the pace and he kept fighting right to the line. The winner came up to us at the 600m and was going a little better than my horse but he was game in defeat.

3rd Mongolian Marshal Matthew Cameron

He had his chance. I think he might just be at the end of his prep. He still hit the line well.

4th Roger That Samantha Collett

It was a super run from a horse that probably wants a little more moisture in the ground. He has a real never say die attitude and kept fighting to the line.

5th Five To Midnight Jonathan Parkes

It was a super run. He hit the line really well. We just didn't get that good of a run in transit and we ended up a long way back.

6th Excalibur Sam Spratt

We had a nice trip. When I popped off I thought he might have sprinted a little more but he just ground away.

7th Blue Breeze Jake Bayliss

He was a little disappointing today.

8th Terra Sancta Michael Coleman

She was disappointing and never really fired today.

9th Rock On Robert Hannam

Im a bit disappointed. I don't really know what to say.

10th Kyrie Eleison Cameron Lammas

I think she may have come to the end of her prep. She also might just not be at this level.

Last Andoyas Shafiq Rusof

He just couldn't keep up today, he gave me nothing.
