Barfoot & Thompson Auckland Cup Day: Barfoot & Thompson Auckland Cup Jockey Comments

We spoke to jockeys competing in the Group I $500,000 Barfoot & Thompson Auckland Cup on Barfoot & Thompson Auckland Cup Day to get their comments on how the race went.

1st Ladies First Jonathan Parkes

It was big effort. She was so tough. We had to make an early move and she just kept finding. Huge performance.

2nd Five To Midnight Opie Bosson

It was a top run. We got a great run in transit but he was just pipped on the line.

3rd Wildflower Michael McNab

She ran super. She just didn't see the others coming. It was an unbelievable run.

4th Alinko Prince Rosie Myers

It was a super run. He was just a touch too dour to sprint, but full credit to him he tried really hard.

5th Zacada Danielle Johnson

It was a huge run today. We got a long way back and he made up huge ground. A shower of rain would've helped him too.

6th Charles Road Jake Bayliss

We got a good spot early. He dropped the bit down the back and he just couldn't stay in the first half of the field which meant we couldn't stay in the striking zone when straightening but he found the line nice.

7th Comin'Through Alysha Collett

It was a fantastic run. He wasn't far from the winners. If he could've got in on a lighter weight he would've gone closer.

8th Excalibur Mathew Cameron

It was a nice run. He pulled a little the first half of the race but he will be better next year.

9th Magic Chai Damian Browne

They just went too slow. We were no chance when they went that slow from back there.

10th Show The World Lynsey Satherley

He went super. He was probably just one run away.

11th Sampson Trudy Thornton

He run an okay race but he is just a horse that is better left handed. It was a fair effort.

12th Diesel Samantha Collett

We did all the donkey work and I think he would've benefitted from a little more give in the ground.

13th Araldo Junior Michael Coleman

He just found the ground a touch hard.

14th Von Tunzelman Leith Innes

We were in a good spot with a round to go. We got on the back of a couple to try get into it but he just didn't finish it off.

15th Smedley Hairi Marzuki (a)

He travelled alright and was still finding on the line.

16th Kaharau Sam Spratt

He travelled nicely but just wants some sting in the ground.

Last Toni May Mark Du Plessis

She just couldn't get the trip.
