Carena West: How to add a 'touch of blue' to Barfoot & Thompson Auckland Cup Day

Each raceday has its own personality and dress code requirements to match, and this weekend's Barfoot & Thompson Auckland Cup Day is no different with the introduction of 'style theme' for the day.

What is it?

"A touch of blue."

Style themes are fast-becoming a trend with our Australian counterparts on their major days and they also provide racegoers a starting point when asking the common question, "what do I wear?".

While not a dress code requirement (you don't have to wear blue!), this 'nice-to-do' addition to your outfit will help us paint the racecourse all things Auckland - a fitting nod to the day's iconic, namesake race which has been in existence since 1874.

We chatted to our fashion ambassador, Carena West. about how to nail this style theme. Keep reading for her tips and top picks (including some for the guys!).

"The pinnacle of Auckland Cup Week - Barfoot & Thompson Auckland Cup Day - now also comes with an almost-absolute must - to add a touch of blue into your raceday outfit.

"Whether you intend on wearing blue from head to toe, or adding a quirky blue accessory a la Anna Heinrich on Melbourne Cup Day, there is a 'touch of blue' that will suit even the most monochrome of race goers.

Check out my style picks and must buys to add a dash of raceday glam to your Barfoot & Thompson Auckland Cup Day outfit."

Bright blue not your thing? Try a more relaxed, navy vibe.

A tuxedo dress can very rarely go wrong in the style stakes, and this blue number is paired perfectly with a brimmed hat.

Not a huge “blue” fan? Add small touches like a pair of blue shoes, or a blue clutch.
