We spoke to jockeys competing in the Group I $1,000,000 Vodafone New Zealand Derby on Vodafone Derby Day to get their comments on how the race went.

1st Vin De Dance Jason Waddell
He went super today. He is just a good stayer and was really tough today.
2nd MongolianConquerer Michael McNab
A stride before the post we were in front and a stride after the post we were in front. He went huge but it hurts.
3rd Danzdanzdance Mathew Cameron
It was a top run. She is just a little inexperienced. When we tried to quicken across the top she just started climbing a bit. Once she got balanced up the last 300m was strong. She will be a super horse next season.
4th The Mayor Rory Hutchings
It was a super run. He had lots to do on the corner but he kept on finding.
5th Endowment Alysha Collett
It was a really great run. The draw may have been the beating of him in the end.
6th Mission Hill Danielle Johnson
He's still a bit weak. We rode him outside of his pattern by going forward from the awkward draw but he boxed on well.
7th Civil Disobedience Ben Allen (a)
The race wasn't run to suit. We were caught wide but ended up with cover but he was just too keen in the run.
8th On The Rocks Jake Bayliss
He stumbled on jumping which cost us being a length or two closer in the run. They went slowly and he relaxed nicely. He was there to run them down on the corner and he just whacked away.
9th Time Lord Samantha Collett
We got a nice run in the trail. He looked likely at one point but then he just battled on his run. He will be better back here in 12 months time.
10th Irish Flame Jonathan Riddell
It was a nice run. He tried hard and he will be better in future.
11th Joe's Legacy Leith Innes
It was a pretty slowly run race. We got back and he hit the line hard! He will be much nicer in the future.
12th Humble Pie Rosie Myers
He went super. He just got stopped when we needed to be going forward.
13th Bel Ragazzo Shaun McKay (a)
The race wasn't run to suit but he will be a better horse in six months time.
14th Jimmy Rocket Michael Coleman
We just couldn't get into the race.
15th Secret Ambition Jonathan Parkes
He just went fair.
16th Maktoum Mark Du Plessis
He just didn't stay and the track was probably too firm.
17th Tavlin Sam Spratt
He was fair. He will be a much better horse as an older cups horse. He got a long way back today and just couldn't run on from there.
Last He's A Freak Masa Tanaka
We had a nice spot in the race. We got a couple of bumps but he just never finished it off.
