September 2019
It's an event full of stories, wonder & some of the bravest athletes in the country.  It's nothing but heart-stopping drama & excitement.
Welcome to Great Northern Day 2019.

Rally the troops & join us at Ellerslie for contests of epic proportions – the 135th running of the Network Visuals Great Northern Steeplechase and Boutique Body Corporates Great Northern Hurdle races.

Two of some of the fiercest sporting competitions in New Zealand, competitors race over distance, tackling all number of hurdles or larger brush jumps and the famous Ellerslie Hill in a fierce battle to the winning post and their place in sporting history.

There’s no such thing as body armour, roll cages or airbags where these guys come from; just nerves of steel, athleticism & a whole of lot of trust as some of the country’s bravest horses & jockeys race to sort out the pretenders from the contenders.

And aside from the heart-stopping, nail-biting, adrenaline-filled theatre, what’s in it for you as a spectator?

Not only an action-packed day at the races, but a chance to say you were part of history as the next chapters in New Zealand’s great jumps races were written.
